SAER Journal · Editorial Policies

SAER Journal follows an open access publishing model that is based on authors retaining copyright in their scholarly works.

Unless an explicit legal requirement or valid agreement provides otherwise, copyright in works published by the journal remains with the authors.

1. Copyright Ownership

Unless otherwise stated explicitly, copyright in articles published in SAER Journal remains with the author or authors. Submission or publication of a manuscript does not mean that all copyright is transferred to SAER Journal.

Where copyright in a work belongs to an institution, employer, or another rights holder rather than the author, authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions and accurately informing the journal of the relevant ownership status.

2. Publication Rights Granted to the Journal

Upon acceptance, authors grant SAER Journal the non-exclusive rights necessary to publish the article, make it publicly available online, archive it, index it, and distribute it for scholarly communication purposes.

This permission does not prevent authors from retaining copyright or from using their work in other academic environments in a manner consistent with the journal's open access and licensing conditions.

3. Relationship with the Open Access License

Unless otherwise stated explicitly, articles published in SAER Journal are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.

Authors retaining copyright and articles being licensed for open access under CC BY 4.0 are distinct but compatible arrangements. While authors retain copyright, readers and other users may share, reproduce, distribute, adapt, and reuse the content in accordance with the license terms.

4. Authors' Rights

Authors may use and share their published work on personal or institutional websites, in institutional repositories, academic networks, educational activities, and other appropriate scholarly settings.

When the published version is reused, reference should be made to the original publication in SAER Journal, the bibliographic details, and, where available, the article's DOI or persistent link.

5. Moral Rights

Authors retain the moral rights available to them under applicable law, including recognition as the creator of the work, association of their name with the work, and protection of the integrity of the work.

SAER Journal's open access license does not remove the requirement to identify the author as the creator of the work.

6. Third-Party Material

Figures, tables, photographs, scales, datasets, images, or other materials used in an article and not owned by the authors may be subject to different copyright and licensing conditions.

Authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions to use copyrighted third-party material, ensuring appropriate attribution, and clearly stating any special conditions of use.

The inclusion of third-party material in an article does not automatically mean that the material is covered by the article's CC BY 4.0 license. Material excluded from the license must be identified appropriately.

7. Permissions and Responsibility

Authors confirm that the work they submit is their own or that they possess the rights and permissions necessary for its publication. Responsibility arising from copyright infringement, unauthorized use of material, or failure to obtain required permissions rests with the relevant authors.

The editor may request documentation of permissions for third-party materials where necessary.

8. Republication and Translation

Translation, republication, or use of a work published in SAER Journal in another publication context must comply with the terms of the CC BY 4.0 license. The original publication must be clearly identified in any reuse.

Republished or translated content must not create the impression that it is a new or independent first publication of the original work.

9. Separation of Website and Article Copyright

Rights in the design, logo, corporate identity, software components, and other journal-specific materials on the SAER Journal website are separate from the copyright and open access conditions that apply to published academic articles.

Unless otherwise stated explicitly, the open access license applied to an article does not permit reuse of the journal's logo, branding elements, or website design.

10. Applicable Law

Copyright-related matters are considered, to the extent applicable, under the laws of the Republic of Türkiye, including Law No. 5846 on Intellectual and Artistic Works.

This policy is intended to explain general publishing principles, and applicable law, contractual terms, or third-party rights may also need to be considered in specific circumstances.

11. Policy Review and Updating

SAER Journal may review and update this policy as necessary in response to developments in open access publishing, Creative Commons licensing, intellectual property law, and scholarly communication practices.
