Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy

SAER Journal · Editorial Policies

SAER Journal regards the long-term accessibility, integrity, and continuity of published scholarly content as a fundamental element of academic publishing.

The journal aims to maintain appropriate digital archiving and backup practices to protect published articles and related publication records against technical failures, data loss, and platform changes.

Policy No. SAER-POL-ADP-13 · Version 1.0 · Effective 2026 · Last Updated 14 September 2026 · Responsible Body SAER Journal Editorial Board

1. General Principle

SAER Journal's digital preservation approach aims to ensure that published scholarly content remains accessible, verifiable, and bibliographically traceable for as long as possible.

Digital preservation practices are carried out in accordance with the principles of content integrity, accessibility, metadata continuity, secure backup, and, where necessary, transferability across platforms.

2. Preservation of Published Content

Articles, issue contents, bibliographic records, and, where appropriate, related supplementary files published by the journal are stored on the publishing platform. To the extent permitted by the technical infrastructure, the journal aims to back up this content regularly and protect it against possible data loss.

Preservation efforts extend not only to the files themselves but also, where possible, to core metadata such as titles, author information, abstracts, keywords, DOIs or other persistent identifiers, publication dates, and issue information.

3. Backups

Regular backup procedures are implemented to the extent possible within the journal's technical infrastructure. Backup frequency, scope, and storage methods may vary according to the technical characteristics of the server, hosting service, and publishing platform in use.

SAER Journal may make use of backup and security mechanisms provided by technical service providers in order to reduce the risk of data loss.

4. File and Content Integrity

Maintaining the file integrity and continuity of published articles is a core principle. Significant changes made after publication are handled in accordance with the journal's correction and post-publication policies.

Care is taken not to alter published files silently or without a trace in a manner that would undermine the transparency of the scholarly record.

5. Persistent Identifiers and Bibliographic Continuity

Where DOIs or other persistent identifiers are used for articles, care is taken to associate those identifiers with accurate bibliographic information and to maintain link continuity.

If URLs or platform structures change, the journal aims, where possible, to redirect former links to the new content or otherwise maintain the currency of bibliographic records.

6. Indexing and External Systems

Content published in SAER Journal may also be discoverable and bibliographically recorded through indexes in which the journal is included, academic databases, search engines, and other scholarly information systems.

Records held in such external systems may complement the journal's own archiving activities; however, the journal does not guarantee the continuity of services that remain outside its direct control.

7. Institutional and Personal Archiving

Provided that this is consistent with SAER Journal's open access and licensing policy, authors may store and share their published work in institutional repositories, personal academic webpages, and appropriate scholarly sharing platforms.

When re-archiving their work, authors are expected to preserve the bibliographic details of the published version and, where available, its DOI link.

8. Long-Term Digital Preservation Systems

In line with its technical and institutional capacity, SAER Journal may evaluate reliable archiving solutions that strengthen long-term digital preservation and may integrate with appropriate preservation systems in the future.

Use of LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, Portico, or similar third-party preservation services will be stated explicitly in the journal's policies only after actual integration with such services has been established.

9. Platform Changes or Service Interruptions

If the publishing platform or technical service provider changes, or if temporary service interruptions occur, the journal aims to preserve published content and transfer it to the new environment with as little disruption as possible.

During technical migrations, appropriate backup, export, and transfer procedures may be used to prevent loss of content or metadata.

10. Cessation of Journal Operations

If SAER Journal ceases publication activities in the future, reasonable efforts will be made to preserve existing published content through an appropriate archiving or access solution that supports continuity of the scholarly record.

Where appropriate, institutional repositories, publishing infrastructure providers, or other reliable scholarly archiving services may be considered for this purpose.

11. Technical Limitations

Digital archiving and preservation practices may be limited by the software, hosting infrastructure, technical service providers, and institutional resources available. SAER Journal does not guarantee uninterrupted access in exceptional technical circumstances beyond its control.

Nevertheless, the journal will seek to take reasonable technical and editorial measures to preserve scholarly content and restore access.

12. Policy Review and Updating

This policy may be updated as SAER Journal's digital archiving infrastructure, backup methods, or long-term preservation services change.

The journal will explicitly identify under this policy only those digital preservation systems that it actually uses or with which it has formally integrated.
